IN THE BEGINNING...

I met Jackie three years ago when I removed her wisdom teeth.  She was my last patient of residency and a kind of tough case—her teeth were as stubborn as she is herself.  I called to check up on her following the surgery and she said she was feeling Great! Two days later I get a call and she says she is not doing so well.  Unfortunately, I was at the airport headed home for my grandmother’s funeral and so I was not in a position to help.  I explained: “I am so sorry, I am not in the hospital because my grandmother passed away and I am headed home to Charleston.  But I will call the hospital and I will notify them that you are on the way.”  I completely forgot to call the hospital.  So, she waited in the hospital lobby for hours before someone was able to see her.  When I returned to the office the next week there was a package lying on my desk from Pro-Flowers.  I was in awe because I had never received flowers before in my life.  I opened the package and read the card.  Jackie had sent a plant to my office for my grandmothers passing, along with a card apologizing for interrupting me with her pain during my time of need.  It was at this very moment that I knew I would one day call this lady my wife.

THE PROPOSAL

Robert proposed on his birthday! I spent months planning a fantastic surprise birthday weekend for my fiancé.  It kicked off Saturday with a spa day for him at the Men’s Lounge in Washington DC.  Next, I whisked him away to lunch and a line dancing class.  Finally, I secretly packed us bags and clothes for our overnight stay in the City.  We stayed at the W Hotel where a few of his friends joined us for dinner and a party on the rooftop overlooking the City.  Sunday I planned a brunch at this house with some of his family and friends.  The next evening Robert tricked me into getting dressed up for his "birthday dinner" at the National Harbor.  As we dinned everyone asked if there was a special occasion, my response was "It's my boyfriend's birthday!"

After dinner Robert asked me to walk along the pier.  As we walked he asked me what I would be doing at that very moment if I was healthy and had all the money in the world.  My response was that I would be traveling the world.  I asked him what he would be doing and he responded..."If I was healthy and had all the money in the world I wouldn't care what I was doing as long as I was with you." At that moment he got down on his knee right in the middle of the harbor (in front of the water and the boats sailing by) and asked me to marry him.  Of course I yelled out..."ROBERT NO! ITS YOUR BIRTHDAY!!" Looking back, I think big mistake yelling NO in the middle of a proposal.  Luckily, he understood what I meant and laughed a little before replying, "Yes, I know; but all I want for my birthday is for you to be my wife."  At that moment I was the happiest woman in the world and I said, "YES!"
